Bondi Aboriginal Walking Tours
Bondi, New South Wales
Join Aboriginal artist, educator and performer Walangari Karntawarra (B.A., B.Ed.) on his Bondi Aboriginal Walking Tour.
Led by Walangari, an Aboriginal Elder and Bondi resident, this experience shares Aboriginal culture, history and knowledge within one of Sydney's most recognised coastal landscapes.
Discover ancient Aboriginal rock carvings and learn about traditional bush foods and medicines that grow locally. Hear about the history of Bondi, from its geological formation and the ways Aboriginal people have used and cared for the area and its resources, through to its place today as one of the world's most iconic beaches.
All participants are provided with tour-guide headsets, with transmitter facilities available for a translator.
The downhill walking tour finishes at Bondi Pavilion by the beach, where guests experience a didgeridoo performance. There is also the option to finish with an Aboriginal cultural performance by Diramu Aboriginal Dance and Didgeridoo, including an opportunity for audience participation in dance.
As a walking-based cultural experience, the tour requires minimal physical resources and makes use of existing public walking routes and spaces. The experience encourages guests to engage with the local environment on foot while learning about Country, native plants, bush foods, medicines and Aboriginal cultural knowledge connected to the area.
By joining the tour, guests support a local Aboriginal-owned and operated business while experiencing Aboriginal culture and knowledge shared firsthand by Walangari Karntawarra.
