About Birdsville Old Hospital Museum
In 1923, Rev. John Flynn established the Australian Inland Mission (AIM), bush nursing home in Birdsville, bringing much-needed care and support to an extremely isolated community. Following substantial progress over more than two decades, fire completely destroyed what had become the town’s only hospital, and a new one was built to replace it in 1952. While no longer operational, this building serves as a symbol of Frontier Services’ rich history and enduring presence in one of our most iconic remote communities. Entering the building visitors are taken back in time through artefacts, videos and storytelling, to learn of the dedication of the nurses who served the community
